Director, Sunshine Moss, Ph.D.

Sunshine Moss is a dual certified, special education and elementary educator. She holds a Ph.D. in special education from the University of Florida. Her work focuses on the intersection of literacy research, policy, and practice. She has over 20 years of experience teaching children from early childhood through post-graduate-level.  Sunshine is the director of The Homeschool Resource Center, a Clinical Educator, and a longtime supervisor and mentor to elementary and special education pre-service teachers.  As a classroom teacher, Sunshine was a  Lastinger Institute Teacher-Leader and member of the school discipline committee. She is the recipient of the Alachua County Literacy award and two grants from Gainesville Regional Utilities for cross-curricular units she developed.

Sunshine assisted in the development of the University of Florida Online Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia. She served as assessment coordinator and data analyst for Winning Reading Boost, a multisensory reading program and school improvement initiative, which was funded through the Florida legislature to improve literacy in the state’s most struggling schools.  Sunshine is a trainer for the University of Florida Literacy Institute and has provided literacy-related professional development to teachers in Florida and South Carolina through UF’s Lastinger Center for Learning and the James Patterson Literacy Challenge.

Sunshine has a passion for family, school, and community partnerships, parent-education, inquiry-based learning, effective teaching, and empowering learners of all ages.
